Heavenly Yasawa Island

The lovely Fiji destination of Yasawa Island exudes incredible
beauty and warmth.

The archipelago of Fiji, in the exotic South Pacific, boasts 333 islands, many of them uninhabited but others just waiting to welcome you to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery and crystal clear water in all the world. Yasawa Island is one of those destinations.

Where's Fiji?
Fiji is located midway between Tahiti and Australia and is easily reachable from many Pacific destinations. Its two largest islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, are home to most of the archipelago's residents as well as the international airport.

The Yasawa Island group is located to the west of the main islands and is somewhat more rugged and much less populated.

Yasawa Island Resort
Those who visit Fiji arrive at the islands in search of a number of active pursuits including snorkeling, surfing, windsurfing, yachting, hiking, bicycling, golf, and most notably, SCUBA diving. Yasawa Island is popular with backpackers, but for those who prefer a less primitive type of accommodation, there's just one choice.

Yasawa Island Resort is the only lodging available on the island. This exclusive destination attracts the most discriminating travelers but the trip is certainly worth the cost.

Here you'll find just 18 thatched huts or "bures", designed in island-style and waiting to welcome you to paradise. Each bure boasts an overhead fan, plantation shutters, air-conditioning, an open-air shower, a relaxing hammock strung from palm trees, and its own thatched beach hut. Divine!

At the resort, you'll be treated to complete solitude and unmatched luxury, with a staff that's attentive to your every need.

Activities
While many will be content to sway in the breeze on their hammock or enjoy a relaxing spa treatment, visitors will have no difficulty staying active on their trip to Yasawa Island.

The resort is a certified PADI diving center so SCUBA diving is the number one activity here. The waters of the South Pacific are incredible, filled with immense coral formations and boasting unspeakably beautiful marine life. Instruction is available for beginners and day-long trips are perfect for experienced divers.

There are 11 secluded beaches on Yasawa Island, perfect for swimming or snorkeling or just for enjoying a private picnic and some time in the sun. You may want to visit the coves made famous in the movie The Blue Lagoon. Off the southern tip of Yasawa are the limestone caves of Sawa-i-Lau, popular for their swimming pools.

Boats are available for fishing excursions or for the finest in pleasure boating on the clear seas of the South Pacific. You can also travel to the sister islands of Turtle and Nanuya to do a little exploring on the sandy beaches and through the coconut groves located there.

Getting to Yasawa Island
Quantas, Air New Zealand, and Air Pacific are the main carriers to Fiji, with direct flights from Los Angeles and Hawaii. These flights will take visitors to Nadi Airport on Viti Levu. From there, a number of regional airlines are available to carry passengers to the outer islands, including Yasawa Island.
