Spring, Summer, and Fall Sights and Activities
Warm summer months and pleasant fall days will be well-spent in Taos. While enjoying the scenery is an activity unto itself, there are plenty of active pursuits to enjoy during these seasons of the year.
Each year, mountain bikers flock to New Mexico to tackle some of the best terrain in this area of the country. The single tracks here are world-class and even novice mountain bikers will find plenty of places to ride.
If you prefer water sports, you'll want to take advantage of the waters of the Rio Grande Gorge. Here you'll find some of the nation's finest Class IV rapids or, if you prefer, you can just take a float down calmer waters. Regardless of choice, the experience will be breathtaking!
Are you a golfer? If so, you won't be bored in Taos, New Mexico. PGA championship-rated courses are located throughout the area and it's easy to find a course that's appropriate for your skill level.
If you'd like to see Taos from the sky, hop aboard a hot air balloon. This city is probably the hot air ballooning capital of the country, with a number of outfitters eager to take you on an early morning journey, complete with champagne toast and even breakfast or brunch. It's a "must-do" in Taos.
Avid anglers can fly-fish for rainbow and cutthroat trout while horse lovers will find plenty of trails on which to pursue their passion.
When you're tired, it's time to roam the area's art galleries. Artists like Georgia O'Keefe began calling Taos home around 1920, and today, many artist colonies still exist here.
You'll enjoy art of all genres and perhaps take home a piece or two to help you remember your stay here. A 2-week long Fall Arts Festival delights visitors each year, usually commencing at the end of September, and May is Spring Arts Celebration month.
Winter Activities
Winter brings snow to the mountains of New Mexico. That means it's time for visitors and locals to break out the skis. The four resorts of Taos, Red River, Sipapu and Angel Fire provide winter sports enthusiasts with lots of room to enjoy classic downhill skiing, Nordic cross-country, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and much more.
The long-established Ernie Blake Ski School, named for the Swiss-born gentleman that started the ski industry in Taos, is always open to help you improve your technique. All levels are welcome.
The yuletide holidays are awesome in Taos. The entire community celebrates the holiday traditions of Northern New Mexico with arts and crafts, parades, concerts, special dinners, and many more activities that will serve to make your Christmas special.
Lodging
If you're traveling to Taos, New Mexico during ski season, the resorts offer a number of accommodation options, ranging from chalet-type homes to deluxe ski in/ski-out hotels.
There are also many lodging choices in the downtown area, from friendly, historic B&Bs to moderately-priced chain hotels to quaint inns.
