Cairo Tours Provide Look into Fascinating Past

Explore the amazing history of Egypt on a Cairo tour.

The most populous city in Africa, Cairo is a blending of the old and the new. As Egypt's leading center for business and industry, the city boasts plenty of modern buildings and conveniences but, at the same time, possesses an Old World charm that is sure to entice the visitor who's interested in ancient history.

Cairo tours have become more and more popular with both Americans and Europeans, mostly to view the nearly 100 pyramids that are located near the city.

Much like New York City, Cairo is moving 24 hours a day. That means there's always somewhere to go and something to do, no matter what time of day it may be.

However people mainly come here for the history and most Cairo tours include plenty of that. Although Cairo is about 90% Muslim, all religions have some sort of foundation here in the city.

Don't miss the Hanging Church, a place of worship for Egypt's Coptic Christians since the 7th century. Even though it's been renovated several times, the architecture is still stunning.

Of course, on any Cairo tour you'll want to leave plenty of time for the pyramids, tombs, monuments, and other landmarks that pay homage to the pharaohs of long ago. In and around Cairo, there are nearly three dozen pyramids and about two dozen tombs.

Indeed, these amazing sights are not far out in the desert as many suspect, but are quite easily accessible. Located on the outskirts of the city, they are quickly becoming threatened by expansion.

Culture and the Arts
In Cairo, you'll find at least 20 museums, huge art galleries, and plenty of places to catch a concert, include the Cairo Opera House. While you'll enjoy the best in international opera there, you can also find a number of venues that specialize in music with a more local flavor.

Dining and Nightlife
You'll find quite a choice of eating establishments here, from Kentucky Fried Chicken to the best in Egyptian foods. And if you're looking for some music and fun after dark, discos and clubs are everywhere.

Getting Around
The mass transit system in Cairo has a reputation for not being very reliable. Those on Cairo tours would be better off walking, as many locals do, or hailing one of the hundreds of black and white taxis that are easy to spot around town.
